Within the Department of Educational Administration and Foundations, the Leadership, Equity, and Inquiry concentration is available to candidates who hold a master's degree, and have experience (teaching, administrative, or staff) in a higher education institute or public school organization. The Superintendent Endorsement is offered in tandem with this concentration for candidates working with work experience in P-12 organizations.
Leadership, Equity, and Inquiry is an interdisciplinary Ph.D. concentration focused on preparing critical leaders and researchers committed to the principles and ideals of social justice who will take their place in society across a wide variety of professional roles. This concentration curriculum is centered in deep-dive courses in equity issues in education and research, paying careful attention to preparing not just critical consumers of research, but producers of research. This content-rich Ph.D. is designed to prepare graduates for many potential career paths, within schools and beyond schools; from think-tank work to work in the public sphere, and from community advocacy to social justice-committed and focused leadership.
Classes meet at an off-campus location in Chicago four weekends per semester (Reserve Thursday nights for synchronous or asynchronous online class sessions).
