The Career Center is a centralized campus resource assisting Illinois State students with developing, evaluating, and/or implementing career, education and employment decisions. Specific to teacher candidates, the Career Center hosts the Education Career Fair during the spring semester as well as education-specific programming throughout the academic year. Details about fairs and events are updated throughout the year. In addition, the Career Center provides a list of job search sites specific to teacher candidates. To prepare for job interviews, the Career Center also has Hiring Tips. They also maintain Hire-A-Redbird, a job and internship posting system specifically for current students and alumni.
While it is not required, all Illinois State University teacher candidates are encouraged to meet individually with Career Advisor Renee Carrigan. Career Advising topics can include preparing for the Education Career Fair, building experience for their resume, resume and cover letter development, improving interview and job search strategies, and communicating and networking with prospective employers. Students can schedule a career advising appointment online via Hire-A-Redbird.
