Multiple Disabilities Specialist Graduate Certificate

The Multiple Disabilities program is a fully online 5-course sequence that prepares educators to meet the needs of students perceived as having moderate, severe, and multiple disabilities, including preparing those educators to utilize evidence-based practices in assessment, curriculum development, and instruction.

The Multiple Disabilities program is typically offered through a cohort model. Synchronous class meetings are typically held on weekday evenings.  Cohort members can be students enrolled in the Master of Science program in the Department of Special Education, combining core courses and electives, or non-degree seeking students taking the courses as a stand-alone non-degree program. In addition to the coursework, students seeking an LBS II with ISBE must pass the appropriate content test.

We hope to begin the next cohort in Summer 2023, with applications opening late 2022.

Your application should include:

• A statement that describes (a) your experience working with individuals perceived as having with moderate, severe or multiple disabilities; (b) your strengths and areas for improvement related to teaching individuals with moderate, severe, or multiple disabilities; and (c) three specific learning goals for the program;
• A letter of recommendation that addresses characteristics that will make you successful in a graduate certificate program and documents that you have a minimum of one year of working experience in PreK-21 school settings;
• A current resume;
• A copy of your current licensure; and
• Any official transcript from each higher education institution you have attended.
