Master of Science Degree Requirements

Required Courses: 30 credit hours - Course descriptions can be found through the  Course Finder.

Core Courses – 21 hours: 

  • SED 409 – Teacher Leadership (3 hrs) 
  • SED 440 – Contemporary Issues and Trends (3 hrs) 
  • SED 410 – Educational Assessment and Planning for Individuals with Disabilities (3 hrs) 
  • SED 422 – Inclusive Instructional Strategies for Students with Disabilities (3 hrs) 
  • SED 454 – Consultation and Collaboration in Special and General Education (3 hrs) 
  • SED 448 – Positive Behavior Supports in the Classroom (3 hrs) 
  • SED 445 – Curriculum Development for Students with Special Needs (3 hrs)  

* Students who successfully complete the core are given Advanced Graduate status.

Electives - 3 hours: *One elective is required for the MS Program, but you can take both if you if interested in the LBS2 Behavior Certificate. 

  • SED 449 – Teaching Students with Emotional And Behavioral Disabilities (3 hrs) OR SED 452 – Behavioral Issues In Autism Spectrum & Related Disorders (3 hrs) 

Capstone – 6 hours: 

  • SED 482 – Seminar in Special Education Leadership (3 hrs) 
  • SED 498 – Professional Practice (3 hrs)
