Chicago Teacher Education Pipeline
The Chicago Teacher Education Pipeline (CTEP) is grounded in social justice and works to cultivate and sustain innovative, resilient, and effective educators for urban schools and their communities.
Recognition as an Exemplary Model for Urban Teacher Preparation
CTEP’s urban teacher preparation model has earned national acclaim from the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, National Network for Educational Renewal, National Broadcasting Society, Association of Teacher Educators, and the American Educational Studies Association. These national and international awards recognize work that fosters the development of quality teaching, research, and professional education practices that promote diversity, equity, and service learning.
Focus on Social Justice and Community-Based Partnerships
Alongside our school and community partners, we are agents and advocates of social justice. In solidarity, we strive to find creative solutions to challenges and to help leverage resources. Our work strives not only to engage our university students as they study to become teachers in and for our partner communities, but also to contribute to the intellectual and human development of communities, schools, teachers, and families across Illinois.
Student Exposure to Urban Settings
One of the primary goals of CTEP is to increase pre-service teachers’ level of preparedness for and exposure to urban school settings. Our various programs seek to attain that goal by integrating urban content and context into existing curricula and clinical experiences at ISU.
Ongoing Support & Professional Development
CTEP offers both virtual and in-person workshops on a variety of topics related to culturally responsive practices. CTEP tailors sessions to particular audiences (pre-service and in-service teachers as well as administrators and university faculty) and for specific desired outcomes. All sessions offer ISBE PD hours for license renewal. Sessions can be offered together to provide a deeper dive for cohorts of educators, allowing participants to earn additional ISBE PD hours for independent practice between connected sessions. You can browse current offerings here. Contact Dr. Maria Luisa Zamudio-Mainou for availability and pricing information.

CTEP Community Partners

Working alongside community-based organizations, CTEP strives to cultivate community teachers that can draw on a wide network of supports to sustain themselves as well as the students and families they serve.
