Special Education Assistive Technology (SEAT) Center

The SEAT Center prepares educators to create digitally accessible content, use assistive technology, and teach digital citizenship. We offer professional development to explore technology through drop-in hours or by appointment, a lending library, curriculum development, and resources for preservice and in-service educators.

Spring 2025

  • February 11th at 4:30 p.m. SEAT Center Open House: Explore and create various materials utilizing accessible equipment available in the SEAT Center.
  • March 18th at 4:30, Makers Engineers from Illinois Assistive Technology Project: These outstanding professionals will share a presentation on a Maker Community and what IATP can offer.
  • April (date TBD): AAC and curriculum training with Prentke Romich Company

Partner with US

With continued support and investment, the SEAT Center will support the following activities related to teaching, research, and service. Join us as we expand our outreach in the following areas:

Student Research Opportunities

Provide research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students interested in technology-mediated learning spaces.

Partnering with Stakeholders

Build partnerships with disabled people who are stakeholders and community partners on the work of the SEAT. Amplifying and showcasing disabled perspectives on accessible technology and digital skills to participate in learning and community spaces.

Prepare Educators

Developing educators’ knowledge and skills to evaluate 3rd party digital education tools for WCAG 2.1 compliance, in accordance with Illinois Public Act 102-0238 which amending school code to require Illinois public and private schools ensure internet content and web tools be accessible.

We are looking to partner with disabled people, districts, industry, and alumni to better meet the needs of educators.
