Biography
Dr. David Meek is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Special Education at Illinois State University, specializing in Deaf Education. He earned his doctorate in Deaf Studies and Deaf Education from Lamar University. Before joining Illinois State, he held teaching and research positions at Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf. He brings more than 20 years of experience in special education, Deaf education, and higher education.

Research Interests & Areas
Dr. Meek’s research explores communication access and the educational experiences of deaf and hard of hearing individuals. His interests include Dinner Table Syndrome, incidental learning, teacher preparation for students with additional disabilities, and accessible learning environments. He is particularly interested in how everyday communication experiences shape opportunities for learning and participation within families and educational settings.
