Biography
Dr. Kyung Mi Min is an assistant professor in the Special Education department at Illinois State University. She brings over eight years of experience as an early childhood educator, with a focus on both general and special education, before transitioning into higher education. She earned her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Kansas.

Teaching Interests & Areas
Dr. Min's teaching interests focus on early childhood special education, educational assessment, culturally responsive pedagogy, and bilingual/multilingual learners. She emphasizes preparing teacher candidates to design inclusive, evidence-based instruction that supports children with and without disabilities. She is particularly interested in assessment practices in preschool and early elementary settings, bilingual/multilingual literacy development, and the integration of the science of reading into teacher education.
Research Interests & Areas
She focuses on the intersections of cognitive processes, literacy development, and bilingualism in young children, with particular attention to learners with disabilities. She also explores how culturally responsive teaching and intervention design can foster literacy growth among diverse learners. More recently, her work has expanded to explore the use of AI-based literacy tools and their integration into early childhood classrooms to support bilingual and multilingual learners.
