International Initiatives

The College of Education’s international opportunities have evolved to include not only study abroad opportunities for our teacher candidates, but also professional development and scholarship opportunities for faculty and students from our College of Education and from other countries, and partnerships with universities, K-12 schools, and faculty around the world. As part of the University and College Strategic Plan, the College is working to make sure our graduates are prepared to teach all students, not only in the state of Illinois and the United States, but around the globe.

  • International Accomplishments

The College of Education at Illinois State University is proud of the International Accomplishments of our faculty and staff. Below is a partial list of accomplishments, and we look forward to adding other international accomplishments for 2019 and beyond.

  • International Scholars

The College of Education offers opportunities for international scholars to research on campus, with guidelines from the Office of International Studies and Programs. To observe in public schools, scholars must work with the Coordinator of Internationalization and obtain permission from the school. Research in public schools requires approval from the University's Internal Review Board.

  • Study Abroad Opportunities

Illinois State professors are highly qualified instructors who will give you a diverse education here on campus. Yet nothing can replace living and studying in a country where one listens to and speaks the language in all situations.

The interactive map above shows the reach of the College of Education’s international programs and partnerships, broken down into four categories: study abroad programs, learning activities, scholarship, and service. If you have an international initiative to add to the map, please email Jennifer Dodson.

International Education

The Global Conversations Committee was a volunteer committee in the College of Education (COE) from 2015-2018. Faculty interested in working towards the University and college goals of internationalization met to identify international efforts of departments and faculty members that influence teaching, scholarship, and service. At this time, the committee no longer meets, but if you are interested in these efforts, please contact Barbara Meyer.
