Degree Requirements

The undergraduate course catalog is the source of information for all degree requirement for your degree.

Professional Education Sequence

It is required that students progress through the Professional Education Sequence in the following order. TCH 212, 216, and 219 must be taken sequentially and cannot be taken at the same time.

  • TCH 210 or PSY 215 - Depends on major

Choose only one:

  • TCH 210
    • Major and Cumulative GPA: 2.5 / 4.0
    • 30 hours completed
    • Grade of C or Better in COM 110 and ENG 101
  • PSY 215
    • PSY 110 or 111
  • TCH 212
  • Major and Cumulative GPA: 2.5 / 4.0
  • 45 hours completed
  • Grade of C or Better in COM 110 and ENG 101
  • TCH 216 with LAB -Lab course depends on major
  • Grade of C or better in TCH 212
  • Grade of C or better in TCH 210 or PSY 215
  • Major and Cumulative GPA: 2.5 / 4.0

Section availability of TCH 216 labs depends on high school schedules. Please pay attention to which TCH 216 lab sections have seats. Music Education majors may substitute MUS 330.25 or MUS 217 for TCH 216 and TCH 216 Lab.

  • Grade of C or better in TCH 212 and TCH 216
  • Major and Cumulative GPA: 2.5 / 4.0
  • EAF 228 or EAF 231 or EAF 235 can be taken at any time during this sequence
45 hours completed

TCH Override Policy

Students are expected to register on time for classes in the sequence recommended by their academic advisor. If an override into an undergraduate TCH course is needed, submit a Course Permit Request form in My.IllinoisState.edu.

  • During advanced registration: Course permissions will be given weekly, space permitting, giving priority to upperclassmen.
  • First week of classes: Course permissions will be given upon receipt, space permitting.
  • Second week of classes: Course permissions will not be given.
