College Council

The College Council is made up of the educators within the College of Education (COE). College Council serves as the primary governing policy for the COE. Tenured and tenure-track faculty, non-tenure track faculty, and full-time Lab School faculty associates are eligible to serve. This position is a three-year term. This committee meets on the fourth Monday of every month from 12:00-1:30 p.m. Further information on the role and duties of College Council can be found in our governing Bylaws.

The College Council is currently made up of four voting faculty representatives each from the School of Teaching and Learning, four from the Department of Special Education, four voting faculty representatives from the Department of Educational Administration and Foundations, and four from the Laboratory Schools. Three student members, one representing each unit (EAF, Special Education, and TCH). The dean also serves on the committee.

Alumni Relations

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  1. Hall of Fame and Outstanding Young Alum awards
    • Conduct the nominations process, including setting an annual timeline.
    • Evaluate nominees and select winners for the Hall of Fame and Outstanding Young Alumni awards
    • Participate in the Hall of Fame Awards event
  2. Homecoming Tailgating Tent Events
    • Determine theme
    • Plan the Homecoming Tailgating Tent event
    • Secure faculty and student participation
    • Arrange catering services
    • Participate in the Homecoming Tailgating Tent event
  3. Alumni Relations: Advance Alumni Relations through outreach and supporting department/school and/or college sponsored events, with support of faculty and staff, as opportunities arise

Technology Committee

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  1. Nurture collaboration among COE faculty and faculty associates to facilitate accessible and equitable use of technology for teaching face-to-face, online, and in hybrid settings, as well as for use in research and service.
  2. Provide a conduit for student and faculty input by surveying students, faculty and faculty associates as needed but no less than every three years around their needs and existing capacities with respect to technology in teaching, research, and service.
  3. Advocate for student and faculty technology needs.
  4. Participate in College decision-making around the needs in and policies, procedures, and support for technology in the teaching, research, and service of faculty and faculty associates.
  5. Submit a fall report to the COEC with the committee’s plan of work for the academic year.
  6. Submit a completed spring report and present it to the COEC prior to the last scheduled meeting of the academic year of the Council.
